About

Lorna Pauls’ luminous watercolors breathe life into South Africa’s wildlife and landscapes, inspired by her roots in White River near Kruger National Park. Growing up amid the bushveld’s vibrant beauty, surrounded by her family’s wildlife photography, Lorna first explored acrylics and oils, painting portraits and botanicals. Finding them unfulfilling, she set art aside to embrace the joys of raising her homeschooled children. In 2016, after moving to KwaZulu-Natal’s coast, she discovered watercolor’s magic through a local artist’s use of negative space. Self-taught, Lorna embraced the medium’s unpredictable, radiant qualities, developing a style that pairs vivid subjects with crisp white backgrounds, echoing South Africa’s sunlit wilds. Now based in Fish Hoek, Cape Town, Lorna resumed painting in 2024 after a hiatus during the Covid lockdowns. Her work, available in originals and prints, captures the untamed essence of the bushveld, inviting viewers into a world of light and color. Driven by watercolor’s challenges, Lorna continues to celebrate the landscapes that shape her art.
