About
I’m Kim McWhinnie, a self-taught artist from Pretoria, South Africa, inspired by the beauty and spirit of the natural world around me. Although much of my artistic journey has been self-guided, I studied Graphic Design at Pretoria Technikon and hold a Diploma in Interior Design, both of which have shaped my eye for composition, colour, and balance. My main focus is watercolour, a medium I love for its fluidity and the way it captures light and emotion. I’m also passionate about working in oils, which allow me to explore richer tones and deeper textures. I’m especially drawn to painting wildlife and portraits, where I can express the quiet strength, vulnerability, and beauty found in both nature and people. Every piece I create is an attempt to tell a story — to capture a fleeting moment or emotion that connects us all. For me, art is both discovery and reflection — a space where instinct meets imagination, and where every brushstroke reveals a little more of the world as I see it.
